Good news!
No surgery! WOOHOO!
The infection count (and I'm not sure exactly what they were counting - and it wasn't WBC as I thought it was) was down by 70% already. It was still abnormally high but the fact that it had dropped so much and I was pain-free meant the doctor was happy - as was I!
I even got medication for the nausea which is a common side-effect of Metrogyl. (Double) WOOHOO!
