Lost finishes after fifth season

Lost will end after its fifth season - ABC may announce soon according to SyFy Portal. I quite like Lost but it can be quite a frustrating programme too. We are not that many episodes into S3 here - maybe 6 or 7, I think - and I am still enjoying it. There do seem to be a lot of negative comments about the upcoming episodes so that might make for interesting viewing.

I do think this might improve it because it has always seemed to me to be a story that had a definite ending - if it plays out the avoidance of that for too long, it is just Gilligan's Island on speed. Giving it a definite finish date should allow a clearer path to that eventual ending, whatever it is going to be.

That's good to hear, actually. I love the show, but there's so many loose ends and unanswered questions that sometimes it gets frustrating. It's good knowing that there will be an eventual end that they'll have to work toward.

I know that many fans will be disappointed because we would all like our favourite programmes to be on forever but I think this very good news for Lost. I have felt for a while that the dangling multiple story lines are deliberate, NOT sloppy writing, because the writers had to give themselves enough things to write about if the story was going to go for 5, 6, 9 or 13(?!) seasons. Now that there is a finite time frame then there is no need to bulk out that space. Not only do new plots no longer need to be introduced (well, as much at any rate) but some of those "abandoned" earlier ones can be addressed/resolved.
