Just a small splurge this time

While I was in Perth, I dropped into Quality Comics and Empire Toys as usual. I was fairly restrained this time: Firefly: The Official Companion: Volume Two, Angel Scriptbook Collection: Volume 2 and Redeemed: The Unauthorized Guide to Angel were the total extent of my buys. I've only had a quick look through all three but they all look fascinating reads. The only other thing I was tempted to buy was a Georges Jeanty-signed Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8: #1 (variant cover) but at AUS$60 that was too much even for an obsessive like me!

Ooh, I'm jealous. I don't even have Volume 1 of either of those - yet - and I haven't heard of "Redeemed". I have Keith Topping's book on Angel, "The Hollywood Vampire". Unfortunately it only covers till the end of Season 4. I have several other books on both Buffy and Angel that I have enjoyed and I'm looking forward to "Serenity Found" which will be coming out this summer.

I'm glad you had a good trip. It sounds like a great game - was it rugby?

I bought the seven individual Angel scripts as they came out, the first five of which are in Vol 1 so I don't think I'll get that one but the second has another 5 scripts in, 3 of which won't be released individually (including I Will Remember You which I love) so I just had to get those.

If you buy anything though, get the two Firefly Companion books - they are just gorgeous on a beautiful heavy paper with brilliant colour and all kinds of interesting articles in addition to all the scripts, of course.

They're both on my amazon.ca wish list. I have the "Serenity" companion (not Inara ;)) and I love it.

Sorry, forgot to add that the game was Aussie Rules (http://afl.com.au/).

That was my other guess. I took an Australian Browncoat friend to see a Canadian Football League game last year and it was suggested that she wouldn't think it was a football game unless people were being carried off the field! :D (She agreed.)

Also noticeable is the stop-start nature American Football vs the continuous running of Aussie Rules (eg, if you are awarded a free kick you can keep on playing if you wish in Aussie Rules).

Yes, she found the Canadian football game to be very slow compared to Aussie Rules, even though the Canadian version is usually considered to be more exciting than the American version. ;)

We had a Canadian guest lecturer here last year who said much the same -he did admit to being a little prejudiced because he liked the Canadian version more but he said that if the American version was like a Hummer, then the Canadian version was like a Jeep and the Australian version was like a Ferrari! I liked that analogy.
