Pern on the big screen?

According to Deadline, David Hayter is set to write the script for the big screen version of Dragonriders Of Pern.

Let's hope something comes of this one - and that it doesn't lose the feel of the books too much.

Perhaps they are water spitting dragons and drought is a metaphor for Thread?
