That one does work - largely ,I think because Pulp's original is very nearly spoken word with background music - not that Jarvis Cocker would agree! There's also a great video from the Conan O'Brien Show (I think - or maybe Jay Leno since they both look so similar *joke*) with this song live - Joe Jackson is having great fun whilst Shatner looks so very earnest. Shatner "sings" over one of Jackson's lines and you can just see Jackson roll his eyes!

This however has to be Shatner's defining song:
