Simultaneously s fascinating and appalling

I am really not sure what to make of yet another remake of War of the Worlds. Might see if I can find the DVD somewhere to have a closer look, I think.

Although the magic of WotW is that it is most powerful in that it's depicted as happening to you and your time, which is how it's intended, things you recognise going down, I've always been very dissappointed in not seeing it as it was in the book.

To me that seems somehow more powerful, and personal.

Maybe because I've read a lot of fiction from the era.

There was a quote on this movie (which is how I came to find the link) that talked about "taking WoTW back to its steampunk origins". Unfortunately, I can't quite remember where the quote came from but, if it genuinely does that, it might be really quite interesting to see.

I really liked what the Youtube clip showed. Kind of reminded me of the excellent job the HP Lovecraft Historical Society did on the Call of Cthulhu movie.

I had forgotten about that Call of Cthulhu movie but it certainly had an "authentic" feel to it.

I wonder if I can persuade my local DVD store to buy a copy of the movie so I can see it before I buy it?
