Sun, Sand and Slaughter (Battles #43-46)

I had two goals today for the tournament:
1) Win at least one game
2) Don't lose any games by stupidity on my behalf.

1) I did mange to win one game, by one objective on turn 6
2) I lost at least one game due to stupidity - forgot to put my DP Ironclad down on turn 1 and then in a second game I forgot to roll for my reserves (shotgun scouts) until turn 4.

One goal achieved, one goal missed.

Game 1 - Capture & Control/Dawn of War against Darryl's Space Wolves. This was the one where I forgot to put the Ironclad down - and ended up with a Land Raider load of Blood Claws in my line by turn 2. It was all over after that, just a matter of how many rounds it would take (and I was tabled by the end of turn 4). LOSS.

Game 2 - Seize Ground/Spearhead against Brendon's Space Wolves (Brendon's a two-time Ultimates winner, btw!) with 4 objectives. With 5 Drop Pod's in his army, I wanted to castle up but because of the deployment I had to move to the adjacent quarter. Three of his DP's came in exactly on target and caught me out in the open. Two of my three tactical squads broke and ran off the table by turn 2. I was tabled again but at least it took until Turn 6 this time! LOSS.

Game 3 - Annihilation/Pitched Battle against Dane's Eldar. This was a bit closer, 6KP to 2 but I managed to roll the most appalling scatters and misses on my shots and then ended up losing almost an entire squad to some S3 weapons because I failed almost every single armour save all game - but at least I didn't get tabled this time! WOOHOO! LOSS.

Game 4 - Storm the Lines/Pitched Battle against Phil's Tyranids. Storm the Lines is like Capture and Control, except that both players put down four objectives in their own deployment line but it is only objectives that you take in the opponent's line that count at the end of the game. This was the one where I forgot to roll for the scouts until turn 4 - and promptly failed the 2+ roll! I got cut to pieces by some appallingly accurate 'Nid shooting but in the end I shot his gaunts off one of my objectives at the end of turn 5 and then managed to run my shotgun scouts onto one of his objectives at the end of turn 6. WOOHOO! In fact, I need another one of those after this day - WOOHOO!

Really not a fun day, to be honest, not because of the results but rather because how it went. Just one of those days I think I'd rather forget!

What I learned today:
Nothing except there are some days where the dice simply will not roll evenly - and there's nothing I can do with it except endure it until it ends.

My W-L-D record:
40K: 31-11-0
Apocalypse: 2-0-1
Planetstrike: 0-1-0
