Dollhouse cancelled

It's official and even Joss commented

from Whedonesque
"Hmm. Apparently my news is not news.

I don't have a lot to say. I'm extremely proud of the people I've worked with: my star, my staff, my cast, my crew. I feel the show is getting better pretty much every week, and I think you'll agree in the coming months. I'm grateful that we got to put it on, and then come back and put it on again.

I'm off to pursue internet ventures/binge drinking. Possibly that relaxation thing I've read so much about. By the time the last episode airs, you'll know what my next project is. But for now there's a lot of work still to be done, and disappointment to bear.

Thank you all for your support, your patience, your excellent adverts. See you again. -j.

All I can hope is that that new project HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH FOX!!!

It's not as if Fox didn't give Dollhouse more of a chance. Ratings were sucking and getting suckier. I don't blame the network at all for canceling the show.

I hope Joss moves to cable and never has to work on a network show ever again.

The ratings definitely indicated to me that it should be cancelled but who knows what they might have been like if the show had beeen well promoted, right from before S1 even aired?

Oh, I agree with that. The thing is, if they had had to promote it, it may have been canceled even sooner, since that would be more expensive.

However, I don't think this show would have worked on Fox no matter what. It's too intellectual, and it's not a Fox show. I think it was a better fit a cable network, specifically FX.

Cable definitely seems to be the way, I think.

Yeah, NOTHING TO DO WITH FOX!

Hey, at least ABC promotes its weirdo shows!

Ironically, the issue hasn't been lack of backing from FOX, rather a lack of promotion, as you say.
