The Apocalypse was today

Apocalypse game that is .....

It was the PAGS open day today so I headed down at about 8.30am to see if there was a game going.

There was almost no-one there but there was an Apocalypse game starting up at 9am so I was in. Eventually it got going at about 10.30am so that was a bit of frustration before we even got to the table. In addition, passing players kept on wanting to join but no-one had army lists so that slowed it down each time one of them wanted to join in.

We eventually set it up with 11 000 points of Ultramarines (7000 points from me and 4000 from Dave) against a composite force - Tyranids/Witchhunters/Chaos Marines/Space marines. And I discovered a type of game in 40K that I don't like - Apocalypse with people who don't get that speed is of the essence in the game otherwise it takes so long that players get bored and wander off, slowing the game down even further when they don't come back to the table for their turn. The 'Nid player insisted on rolling his dice one at a time - when you have 48 attacks, that is just painful. In addition, I told them several times to check their numbers as even our 11 000 points looked very small at times.

The game stuttered on and dragged out to a draw, 1 objective each with all the rest contested. It was then that they finally looked at their numbers again and discovered that they had actually taken 14 500 points due to a breakdown in communication well before the game even started!

*sigh*

ETA: Highlight (one of the few for me) was the combined fire from one 10-man bolter scout squad and one 10-man shotgun scout squad killing off an entire squad of Khorne berzerkers before they got anywhere near our lines. YAY!
