Movie Review: Dog Soldiers

I was fairly impressed by this movie.

With some slick editing and good early character work, this movie got me interested and intrigued from the get-go. A very tense chase sequence stops when the squad of soldiers take refuge from a pack of werewolves in a cottage. This is where most of these movies bog down for me but this one played a perfectly alternating mix of tense action (and they did that very well by not showing too much of the werewolves for a long time) and moments of quiet reflection/recovery/reloading, depending on the character. Very well depicted "possible" action sequences kept the pace rolling and just as the movie might again have bogged down, the twists in the tale kicked in for a great ending.

The only sequence that I didn't like was the dog tugging on the sergeant's intestines - not because it was gory but because it was just so damned silly that it quite took me out of the movie. That aside though, I really liked this - one of the best werewolf movies I have seen in a very long time.
