Really?

As I was changing after going to the gym at the local recreation centre, I happened to look down and see that there was one of those sanitary pad disposal bins next to the sink. After I was dressed, I went outside and asked one of the staff about it. "Oh yes, we have one of those in every toilet and change room in the building" was her reply. There was a lot of pride in that "every", btw.

Yes, mine was the obvious question: "In the Men's change rooms though? I wouldn't have thought that there was much call for it in there?"

The answer was a beauty "Oh we don't believe in discriminating against anyone here."

Huh? But ..... and ..... what .....

I did the only thing I could - nod, smile and walk on by.

I see one need for a maxi pad bin in an men's room, and this might explain the woman's reaction about not discriminating. It's probably for the female-to-male transexuals.

I have to say that that's a group I didn't consider!

Do you think that might be the group she was considering?

I'm not really sure - this is pretty steadfast bogan country so that would surprise me. I thought at the time that her answer was either a flip "whatever" but she was smart enough not to say it quite that way or that she was being sarcastic. That they had genuinely considered this issue never even entered my mind - I am not sure whether that says more about my opinion of their considerations or about my mind!

That's the only explanation for her reaction I can think of. Maybe that recreation center is more progressive than you thought.

Now that would be earth-shattering! ;-)

Love the icon, btw.
