It may have simple explanation .....

...... but why do I see people's own journals on their f-lists? There is presumably some kind of benefit but what it it?

Anybody?
Anybody?
Bueller?

I do it so I can read my own entries without going to my journal (which sounds ridiculously lazy, I know,) but it reminds me to reply to comments left to whichever entry was latest. Doesn't always work, but it helps.

I've seen other people say that they usually post right after they go through their flist and right before they go to bed/go to work/etc., so they use their own entries as a bookmark of sorts, so they know where they left off on their flist next time they scroll through it.

Ditto to all of these statements. It's also just easier to keep track of your own entries, notice and correct mistakes, etc. I primarily just visit my f-list, so I can see everything there and don't have to navigate back and forth. Plus, I consider my own posts to be part of my f-list community, so they belong there too.

Also, it means you show up bold on other people's flists in their profiles, so it's easy to tell if you come across someone who's friended you.

I only realised what those bold entries meant a few months ago! I am so slow sometimes!

I think it might do that already though, without adding me to my own flist. I must check this out.

Now that sounds useful - I was doing a lot of that flitting around yesterday between various pages and got myself "lost" twice, including closing one window halfway through a post!

When I write updates, I use an LJ client which is very useful. I can manage my entries through there, and also use it as a notepad.

I have to betray my ignorance here - what is an LJ client?

[identity profile] electrcspacegrl.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
It's an application you can install on your computer that allows you to post entries, edit posts and manage posts and your friends list all in one program. It's a lifesaver and I'd never use LJ without it.

You can find an LJ Client here. If you use Windows I recommend Semagic. For Mac, Xjournal. I actually wish there was a Semagic client for Mac because it's much nicer.

Oooh sounds interesting. I must explore! Thank you for the link.

I knew there had to be some kind of benefit, not just unfettered narcissism! That explanation makes a lot of sense.
