So, you get 4 very large telescopes, put them together in a coordinated array and, with hundreds - no, thousands - of brilliant minds coming up with a name, the best you got was The Very Large Telescope?

*That* was the best?

What happens next time when you build a bigger one but the funding is a little short? Does this one get called The "Slightly Bigger But Not Quite As Big As We Were Hoping For" Telescope?

I think astronomers ran out of people to name telescopes after!

I suppose after you name all those stars and galaxies and pulsars etc, etc, you might run a little short!
