It's been Dune before

From CHUD, a Dune remake is in the winds? Maybe? It seems very early in the piece to believe anything and given past attempts, I wouldn't rely on anything actually happening. In the end, Dune isn't a very visual story, I think. Don't get me wrong, there are some absolutely iconic images which will always look spectacular if done well - the eruption of a mature sandworm from a dune comes to mind - but the meat of the story is a very internal one. I love the world of Dune, just in case you wonder, it's just not good material to adapt to movie, in my opinion. We shall see - or not as the case may be!

Did you ever see the miniseries that was done on it? I thought that that was quite competent.

I've seen Lynch's movie and the series (or a part of the series at least). Lynch's movie is visually stunning but he has no idea what the story is about whereas the series is much closer to the original story's feel. In fact the smaller sets add to the feeling of oppression and persecution that permeates the first book. I haven't seen all of the mini-series or any of the Children of Dune but it's yet another on my list to watch.
