Not sure who was more frightened .....

..... me or the cat!

The long of it is that we have two rabbits who, in the normal bunny way, adore digging holes. I have long since given up having a nice garden as they have free-run of the garden during daylight hours. At night we put them in a large hutch - 2m wide x 2m deep x 1 m high. Then I go around the garden and fill in their holes. Most of their holes are very shallow, half-hearted efforts but some are bigger. Today they had dug a very big one in the corner of the garden right next to the fence. The entrance alone was about 2 metres long and about half a metre deep. There was a bit completely underground (about half a meter) and then it resurfaced at 90 degrees to the original entrance with another long entrance. They had moved an enormous amount of soil in a short time.

After we put them both into the hutch, I started to fill one end of this hole fairly loosely and then went around to the other end. This end had much more dirt so I was going to throw the dirt as far into the tunnel as I could and then stamp it in tightly. I threw the first shovelful in and then a very dirty sandy cat exploded out of the tunnel and ran straight at me. I am not sure who was more surprised - the cat who had been sleeping in the tunnel (it was a warm day today) or me, attacked by The Monster Zombie Cat From Hell (actually it was Tigger from next door) but how was I to know that? It frightened so many shades of blue out of me that I had to sit down to recover!

See, GARDENING IS EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVIL!

My partner thought it was hilarious - she looked out the window to see me launch about 3 feet vertically and about 5 feet backwards, all from a standing start!

Ya know... I don't blame her for one second. Must have been soo fun to see.

I'm glad the cat got out before you had a chance to fill the hole!!

Years ago, my brother, who is not fond of cats, was watching a National Geographic special about tigers hunting prey while my sister-in-law was away. He went to bed and was dreaming about a tiger stalking him. He woke up and sitting on the pillow next to him was a large orange tabby cat. (They don't have a cat!) He said he was out in the living room before his feet hit the floor! :D It turned out that a neighbour's cat had come in the basement window!
