Movie Review #28 - TMNT
It really is a long time since I have seen these guys (original cartoon series only for me - none of the movies) so I wasn't really sure what to expect but I came away from this movie impressed and SMG's voice purred like always!
First check of the watch - about an hour or so in, I think
This was a darker movie that I expected but that actually worked well for me. The feel wasn't unrelentingly dark though - there was still some trademark humour in there. The voices were all great - and, as I said before, SMG's silken tones were great to hear again.
The animation was amazing - some of the holy grails of animation were met, displayed and simply blown away - rain, facial closeups, running water, multiple textures - all without exception were rendered perfectly.
The script wasn't bad - no depth but then I can't say I expected that either. The enormous chunk of exposition at the start was very deftly handled and then formed the base of the rest of the movie to good effect.
Action sequences - both individual duels and mass-action battles - were very well done with enough variety in that I never felt like moves were being recycled.
Overall, a good movie even if some of the really fast camera-work (like the skateboard ride into the sewers) were just a bit to frantic in their determination to show off the virtuosity of the animators!
