It occurred to me ...

Umbrage is an insult or offensive remark. Penumbra is the half shadow between complete illumination and complete shadow. Does this mean that a weak insult that doesn't really cause offense but could be mildly irritating ("Your father was a hamster and your mother smelled of elderberries!") should be called a penumbrage?
