Game # 22 - Uruguay vs England

I could have been mean and paraphrased that famous headline to read "Suarez 2 Turnips 1" but that would be unduly harsh on England, I think. Suarez's goals were both great examples of his skills and, given Hodgson's comments about him a few days ago, particularly ironic but both really were well-deserved after an excellent Uruguayan performance. England did play well too and Sturridge, Sterling and Cahill all played great games, the first two in attack and the latter in defense. It was Rooney, of all people, who scored the sole England goal, his first ever World Cup goal but nothing else was successful. Despite having the Uruguay goal virtually under siege for about the last ten minutes of the game, there was no equalizer.

England are eliminated and Uruguay have kept themselves in the running.
